Automatic Carton Erectors

The Anubis 3D Automatic Case Erectors (ACE), also known as carton erectors, are designed to efficiently transform flat boxes into fully erected and bottom-sealed cases. These end effectors are both compact and lightweight, enhancing their ease of use in various packaging environments. The carton erectors come in multiple sizes and can be customized to match the specific footprint of the flat boxes being used. They offer two configuration options to cater to different operational needs and packaging requirements. These configuration options make the Anubis 3D ACE carton erectors versatile and adaptable to various packaging environments, enhancing efficiency and productivity in the case erection process.

CONFIGURATIONS

The ACE-90 “Automatic Carton Erector” erects a wide range of Regular Slotted Boxes “RSC”, single, double-walled, or Full Overlap “FOL”. It is our standard solution for erecting cartons using a 6-Axis Collaborative or Classic Robot. The 90° actuator and 76 l/min of vacuum holding force on either side of the box provide swift reliable carton erecting every time.

The ACE-180 serves the same purpose as the ACE-90. Additionally, it can pick and place products into erected boxes, efficiently introduce the box to the top taper as a surface gripper, and palletize the cartons. This quadruple functionality provides the end effector with versatility, enabling it to carry out multiple tasks within the packaging process.

LASER DISTANCE SENSOR

Position Detection is one of the features of the TRUE DO-IT-ALL SENSOR.

By integrating the Laser Distance Sensor, the Carton Erector system becomes more robust and capable, ensuring high performance and reliability in demanding industrial environments with dust, vibrations, or varying lighting conditions. Calibration and monitoring are made easy with the intuitive LED display. It detects distance reliably between 25 mm to 90 mm or 0.98″ to 3.54″.

CARTON FOLDING FRAME (CFF)

The Carton Folding Frame (CFF) serves as a pivotal component within the Carton Erector system.

Below are its critical features and significance:

  • Customizability: The ability to customize the CFF according to the different box sizes.
  • Mounting Options: Offering both floor mounted and robot base attachment options provides flexibility in installation and integration with existing production lines.
  • Material Selection: It can be made from powder coated Carbon steel or stainless steel (SS 304) which ideal for sanitation in food processing or pharmaceutical industries.

ROBOT CARTON ERECTING FUNCTION

The Anubis 3D Automatic Carton Erectors (ACE) harness the versatility of 6-axis robots to optimize the carton erecting process. Engineered with operator safety as a top priority, these carton erectors are collaborative compliant. The ACE system’s multifunctionality substantially enhances productivity and efficiency, rendering it an optimal selection for end-of-line automation solutions.

A typical carton erecting application involves three sequential steps:

  1. Picking the carton
  2. Expanding the carton
  3. Transferring the carton to the taping frame

The folding flap includes suction cups mounted to a carriage to travel along a linear rail providing continuous contact with the picked carton. This engineering feature improves fold accuracy and allows for quicker cycle time as it always maintains control of two sides of the carton.

FANUC COLLABORATIVE
INTEGRATION SOFTWARE

The Anubis 3D RIM and Plug-In, Software are designed for easy integration with the FANUC CRX Cobots, utilizing the EE port and RS485 protocol for reliable communication. Installation is straightforward with a simple M8 connection and no additional configuration required. The ASG/ACE Plugin enhances the cobot’s interface with intuitive “drag and drop” icons for various functions, supporting applications like palletizing, folding cartons, and pick and place. Additionally, the pneumatic tubing from the IVTC connects to the air-pass port on the CRX Wrist, ensuring efficient compressed air management

EASE OF
CONNECTION

To connect the IVTC to an industrial robot or collaborative robot, it is recommended to utilize the M12 “12 Pole” cable to establish a connection with the appropriate end effector port or directly with the robot controller for digital I/O control. This efficient arrangement simplifies the process of installation and integration, negating the necessity of lengthy cables or hoses. These procedural measures facilitate the seamless integration of the Anubis 3D IVTC, ASG, and ACE with any cobot or robot, thereby enhancing their functionality and ease of use across a diverse spectrum of applications.
