In automotive assembly, a door nest was traditionally a semi permanent fixture: bolted to the line, adjusted by a millwright, and left alone. A leading Japanese automaker approached us for a solution that would make nest changeover fast enough to match flexible production, and the cam lock design we delivered changes nests in 30 seconds. It worked well enough that their team from Japan visited to investigate the solution for global use.

How the Cam Lock Works

The operator simply slides the 15 lb nest into place and the cam mechanism locks it in position: no bolts, no tools, no realignment. Each door nest is made of just 3 parts, which keeps spares simple and replacement costs predictable. The cam geometry does the precision work, seating the nest repeatably so the line restarts without adjustment.

Key Features

  • 30 second nest changeover, from a fixture that used to be semi permanent
  • Slide in, cam locked: no tools, no bolts, no realignment
  • 15 lb nest built from only 3 parts
  • Proven with a leading Japanese automaker, evaluated for global deployment

Why Printed Fixtures Beat Bolted Ones

Changeover speed is a design property, not an operator skill. Printing the cam geometry directly into the fixture makes quick locking affordable at fixture scale, the same way our Manual Tool Changers make it affordable at the robot flange. Cam Lock Fixture Questions

How fast is the cam lock nest changeover?

30 seconds. The operator slides the nest into place and the cam mechanism locks it in position with no tools and no realignment.

How heavy is each door nest?

Each nest weighs about 15 lb and is made of only 3 parts, which keeps handling easy and spares simple.

Can the cam lock design be adapted to other fixtures?

Yes. The same slide and lock principle applies to any nest or fixture that changes with the product, and printed geometry adapts it to your exact parts.
